I was very frustrated because I was promised full unpacking services and that was not communicated to the movers. I was also told pick up would be by noon yet the movers did not show up until 3:00. Because they were not told I expected them by noon. I incurred a $300 fine because of the late delivery. I really do not have any complaints about Five Star Movers they were fabulous. My problems were entirely with iMoving

IMoving communication is terrible. Texts, emails go unanswered. Carrier was switched at last minute with no notification. Could never get the same person to talk to. Rita was bordering on rude, never returned my call. Despite my telling you what size truck I needed, the wrong size was sent. I would never recommend iMoving.

I desperately needed movers to bring furniture from Woodstock, NY to Watertown, MA after the original company I selected dropped out less than a week before the move date, and I am so lucky that Mimi's was available and willing to pick up the contract. They were friendly, professional, and very comfortable handling my furniture, which included a glass top table, a large old leather couch, and a very heavy double dresser. Everything made it up the stairs into my new place without a scratch. It couldn't have been a smoother move. Highly recommend.

The time changed and it took five hours later. The truck already had someone else’s stuff on it so they had to make three trips which made it even longer. Other than that the three people that moved me were phenomenal.

A couple of issues. A day before the move, I called to add a stop. The movers were not informed of this. Therefore they did not completely understand me when I separated the items into two categories: “Inn”: the first stop was to be the inn where I moved to. They seemed to understand me, but a few minutes after arriving at the Inn, I saw them drive right by it. I was able to contact them by phone. They told me that their instructions were to do one stop only (the storage units). They had not received the change to two stops. So they were talking about refusing to come back to the Inn and unloading everything at the storage unit. Why did they not understand me when I talked about two stops for several hours as they were packing? Was it their limited grasp of English? Anyway, Peter called them and clarified that it was to stops. So they did come to the inn (time spent on resolving this misunderstanding: about 45 minutes. Please do not charge me for that time. They dropped some of the items marked “Inn” at storage. And dropped some of the things marked “Storage” at the Inn. So it’s taking me several hours to correct the known errors and to do quality control on the rest. Thinking of all this and comparing it to experiences with movers in the past, I now doubt that I would hire this company again.

When you move to a more built-up or urban area, chances are they won't let you park an entire semi truck in front of your apartment.
Your movers will have to park the main truck at a staging area, and use a smaller box truck or van to transport your stuff to (and from) the trailer.
This is called a moving shuttle, and the inconvenience comes at a price. Blame your city council.
Moving labor is a helpful service you can book if you're planning on DIYing most of your move.
Rather than a full-service moving team, moving labor can show up, help with packing, and help with the heavy lifting.
Everything else will be up to you, unless you book a moving labor team to meet you at your destination, too.
It's always a good idea to get insurance, and in the interest of being responsible, we're not going to tell you to skip it. However, if you're feeling risky and you're only moving a couple blocks (without anything fragile thrown in the mix), you may be able to get away with the basic coverage offered by your movers.
We recommend tipping between 15% and 20% of the total cost of the move, to be divided up between your entire moving team. Don't forget the driver, either! In the moving industry, tipping is usually accepted and expected.
While there are some rare companies that don't accept a gratuity, it's a good idea to have your wallet at the ready just in case.
